THE STORY
The end of the 1980s marked a sunsetting for the Lamborghini Countach, a car that was first introduced for 1974 as a successor to the groundbreaking Miura. To celebrate 25 years of business in 1988, the Countach was extensively restyled, receiving a number of unique touches including most importantly larger and more directive air strakes designed to help keep the radiators cool. The interior was also revised to be more comfortable and ergonomically pleasing. Under the skin, the Countach received a number of revisions to provide a more reliable, refined driving experience and higher performance than ever before.
This 1989 Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary is one of only six painted in Giallo Fly and is a rare carbureted version with six Weber downdraft carburetors feeding the 5.2L quad-cam V-12 engine. An engine-out service was completed in December 2023, and work also included new belts and an overhaul of the 5-speed manual gearbox. Opening the scissor doors reveals the Nero leather interior, which features bucket seats and a center console with the famous gated shifter.
Introduced at the 1988 Monza Grand Prix, the 25th Anniversary Countach was arguably the most outrageous of what’s normally considered to be the most outrageously designed supercar. It was also touted as being the most reliable, quickest, fastest and best driving of the model as well, with revisions to the engine, transmission, airflow, electrical system and more creating a car that was simply more rewarding to drive. The company also made power windows available, used a much-improved air conditioning system and installed more supportive bucket seats, all moving the Countach more closely to a luxurious grand touring sports car than ever before.
Just 658 (or 657, depending on the source) 25th Anniversary Countachs were built, with a scant few being equipped with the Weber carburetors rather than the fuel injection. Interestingly, the carbureted Countach delivered an additional 55 HP over the fuel-injected examples.
