In 2002, Ford unveiled a GT40 concept car—penned by Camilo Pardo under head of styling J. Mays—that was a modern-day interpretation of the famed GT40 race cars that brought Ford multiple victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the 1960s. This race car for the street was so well received by the press and public that Ford soon green-lighted plans to build a limited production run to be offered for sale starting in 2005.
Due to ownership issues with the GT40 name, the production cars were simply known as the Ford GT. While visually very reminiscent of the 1960s Le Mans winners, the Ford GT was in fact wider and taller than its forbearer. However, under its skin the Ford GT was bristling with advanced technology and a rolling marvel of high-tech manufacturing techniques. The Ford GT’s aluminum-alloy frame was constructed using an advanced extrusion process known as super-plastic forming, while its floor panels were roll-bonded and its central tunnel section friction-stir welded. Clothed in aluminum and carbon fiber panels, under the rear decklid sat a supercharged 5.4L DOHC aluminum-alloy modular V-8 engine that booted 550 HP and 500 lb-ft of torque through a Ricardo 6-speed transmission and could propel the Ford GT from zero to 60 MPH in just 3.3 seconds and to a top speed of 205 MPH.
Equipped with all four available options, this 2005 Ford GT shows just 4,071 miles on the odometer. This GT is one of only 154 examples finished in Quicksilver paint for 2005, and it comes with the optional contrasting black racing stripes and a black interior. It’s supercharged 5.4L V-8 with multipoint fuel injection pushes its 550 HP through a Ricardo 6-speed out to a helical limited-slip differential, while its aluminum double wishbone SLA suspension with coilovers and Brembo ventilated disc brakes help to keep all that power under control. Equipped with the BBS forged lightweight wheels, this stunning, low-mileage, American-built supercar also boasts air conditioning, stainless dual exhaust and a McIntosh stereo system.
