Marking the 50th anniversary of the 1965 Shelby GT350, Ford Motor Company debuted the new GT350 at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show, followed by the all-out GT350R a few months later in Detroit. Since total GT350R production only reached 37 units back in ’65, Ford limited production to the same quantity for the new GT350R and made it only available in the U.S. for Ford Motor Company family members and VIPs.
At their heart, the GT350 and GT350R shared the wicked new 5.2L V-8 engine, internally codenamed “Voodoo.” A bored and stroked version of the Mustang GT’s 5.0L V-8, the Voodoo is equipped with Ford’s first flat-plane crankshaft, good for an 8,000 RPM redline. Reaching peak power at 7,250 RPM and delivering an awesome, wailing exhaust note, the race-bred Voodoo V-8 delivers 526 HP and debuted as the most powerful naturally aspirated production engine from Ford.
Other GT350 wizardry includes a lightweight TREMEC TR-3160 6-speed manual transmission, electric power steering with three driver-selectable modes, composite iron-aluminum brake rotors supplied by Germany’s SHW, and Brembo calipers with six pistons up front and four at the rear. Predictably, the GT350 and R model both excel in every possible discipline and at performance levels far beyond their hallowed 1960s namesakes.
Interestingly, 2015 GT350Rs were not allowed to be ordered by the general public; instead, Ford contacted potential buyers and invited them to purchase a GT350R. This GT350R is Car No. 37 of the 37 produced, rendering it the last of the 37 GT350 R–Models produced in 2015.
Offered with the odometer reading 6,043 miles, its many highlights include the 5.2L/526 HP “Voodoo” V-8 engine and a 6-speed manual transmission. The specially tuned suspension features Magneride dampers and black 19-inch carbon fiber wheels mounting Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. R-Model specific aerodynamic features include the front diffuser, carbon fiber rear spoiler, hood vent, underbody belly pans, vented wheel wells and side skirts. Interior upgrades include the special steering wheel and red interior stitching, plus the Electronics Package that includes dual-zone air conditioning, an 8-inch touchscreen with navigation and a seven-speaker audio system. The last modern GT350R of the 37 built for 2015, this example is ready for inclusion a collection and stands ready to deliver an amazing experience.
