A custom build, this 1967 Ford Mustang Convertible is powered by a supercharged 580 HP V-8 engine with a dual exhaust system and a 6-speed manual transmission. It’s newly painted in White Pearl with blue stripes, and the rear bumper has been painted to match the body. A rear spoiler blends with the body to encircle the tail light panel, and the bumper-deleted front end has been treated to a Shelby-style design with custom grilles and a dual scooped hood. The side scoops were integrated into the body for a smoother, cleaner look.
The blue and white interior uses modern bucket seats and features a center console, a touch-screen display, digital gauges, pushbutton start, a tilt steering column with a custom wheel, power windows, power locks, courtesy-lighting sill panels, air conditioning and a power-operated convertible top. The chassis is fitted with rack-and-pinion steering, coilover suspension and 4-wheel disc brakes.
For the 1967 model year, Ford introduced a seemingly larger Mustang, one that exhibited a little more of a muscular presence to keep up with modern times. Chevrolet had just introduced the Camaro and Pontiac debuted the Firebird, both of which spelled trouble for the Mustang. On top of that, of course, Plymouth was still selling Barracudas, and Dodge, while at a slightly higher price point, introduced the Charger the year prior. As if that weren’t enough, Mercury introduced the Cougar as a more upscale offering from the Ford Motor Company portfolio. The pony car war was exploding and feeding into the muscle car war, and the Mustang had to maintain its lead. Restyling was seen as a way of keeping things fresh and competitive. The body style sustained through 1968, with the Mustang growing yet again for 1969 with another all-new body design and an even more pronounced dedication to the ongoing performance wars.
